(2017), involving 17 professional male baseball players, it was found that extending the duration of good quality sleep by 1.1 hours for five consecutive nights resulted in a remarkable decrease in fatigue. These findings indicate that sleep loading not only improves visual search response time but also significantly reduces fatigue levels in athletes.
Athletes with an average sleep duration of less than 8 hours were 1.7 times more likely (65%) to have experienced an injury compared to those who slept for 8 hours or more (31%) over a 21-month reporting period. This suggests that adequate and high-quality sleep can have a positive impact on cognitive performance, specifically in terms of reaction times, among professional players (Mah et al., 2017).
A study conducted on 10,125 university students aged 16-30 years found a positive association between sleep quality and muscle strength, resulting in a 5.74% increase. (Chen, Y. et al, 2017).
Data analysis of basketball player Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors in 2014 showed that poor sleep habits had a notable negative impact on performance. However, when Iguodala obtained sufficient sleep of 8 hours or more, remarkable performance benefits were observed, including a 29% increase in points per minute and a significant 45% decrease in fouls committed. These findings underscore the potential positive influence of sleep extension on the athletic performance.
